Ankara Meets Hand-Dyed Adire
One side is Ankara, the bold wax print cotton worn across West Africa, machine printed with vivid geometric and figurative patterns. The other side is adire, Nigeria’s resist dye textile, hand dyed in Abeokuta using tie and fold techniques, so that side of the bag carries a pattern applied entirely by hand and unique to that piece. Together the two sides put a machine printed tradition and a hand dyed tradition on the same object, so the bag itself tells two different stories depending on which way it faces out.
