Men's Adire Agbada with Aso Oke
The Men’s Agbada carries the same open front, knee length silhouette as our women’s version, cut slightly wider through the body for a more relaxed drape. The adire body is trimmed along every edge in structural Aso oke, giving it the weight to hang properly and stay closed as you move. This is a unisex silhouette, women wear this cut as comfortably as men do. It has already stood in rooms that matter, the permanent secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Interior wore this silhouette to a state meeting with the Polish government in Warsaw in June 2026, and Joshua wore it at Africa Day Warsaw 2026, where it stopped conversations all day. Hand-Dyed Adire and Handwoven Aso Oke
The body is adire, hand dyed in Abeokuta using tie and fold resist techniques, so the markings on your piece are unique to it. The trim is Aso oke, handwoven strip by strip on a traditional narrow band loom in Yoruba tradition, a fabric that has signalled royalty and prestige for generations. In this Agbada it is not decoration, it is structure, the weight of the Aso oke is what keeps the garment draping correctly instead of blowing open in motion.
Care Guide
- Dry clean is preferred for this garment
- If hand washing, use cold water only and handle the fabric gently, do not wring
- Do not bleach
- Do not tumble dry, lay the garment flat to dry away from direct sunlight
- Do not iron directly on the Aso oke trim, use a pressing cloth
- If ironing the adire body, do so inside out on a low setting
- Expect a small release of colour in the very first wash on the adire sections, this is normal and part of how resist dye fabric settles
Sizing & Fit
This cut runs slightly wider than the women’s Agbada, so it already sits generously across the shoulders and body. True to size gives a relaxed, easy drape. If you prefer a heavier, more enveloping silhouette, sizing up works well and does not compromise the fit since the piece is worn open.
